How To Become
- Complete a bachelor degree in social work. Alternatively, if you already have a tertiary qualification you can complete a two-year Master of Social Work.
- Apply for registration with the professional representative body of social workers in Australia – the Australian Association of Social Workers.
- At least 980 hours of field education in at least two placements in two different practice areas AND one of those placements must be in direct practice
- A high level of English Language Skill - IETLS – minimum overall score of 7.0 AND a minimum score of 7.0 in each component and no component is below 6.5
- Social workers with several years’ experience can move into more specialised roles in family therapy, research, mental health, academia or policy and management.
